Birthday outfit inspiration

As I promised in the previous post, here's some of my birthday outfit inspiration. D bought me the dress as a birthday present and this is an outfit I built around it.

It's really very basic outfit, with a little twist, something I'd be very comfortable wearing. I love the dress, as it's a very flattering shape for me and the back of the dress is simply gorgeous. The subtle glitter gives it enough edge for my taste. Truly a perfect little black party dress.

Perhaps not very creative and innovative, pairing a little black dress with little black pumps, but hey, if it ain't broken, why fix it? Black mid heels are also a very practical choice, as I will have to stand up and down throughout the evening and perhaps even walk a little too. Another reason is that my high black heels are still in Finland and I didn't feel like buying new shoes. Or actually, let me rephrase that... I didn't feel like buying cheap shoes that won't last long when I can save up the money for a pair of quality shoes like the Little Lulus in the picture.

The Twinflower earrings I have had for years, and I have the matching necklace, bracelet and ring, but mostly I wear the earrings. (I'd wear the necklace too if the lock wasn't broken) I got the set as a confirmation gift from my family when I was 14 and I used to wear them a lot back then, until I got a little tired of seeing every other person wearing the same earrings and/or necklace. (the set is extremely popular in Finland, which isn't exactly surprising considering how pretty they are) Here in the Netherlands I have taken up wearing them again, as here almost no-one has anything like them. 

Tights are a must, as I am so sensitive to cold. These glitter tights from H&M are cute, but I'll most probably end up wearing just plain black ones. No time for shopping and even if I had time to go shopping, I couldn't justify buying new tights when I already have perfectly good ones. My dress is glittery enough.

Not shown in the inspiration board, but I will probably add a cardigan or blazer to the outfit as well. Otherwise I'd probably freeze... Dutch houses are just not as well insulated as Finnish houses.

As I will have to spend almost the entire morning baking and preparing everything (and having a long distance birthday party with my friends... skype is a real blessing) I will probably keep my hair and make-up simple. A curled ponytail is festive enough and the '60s inspired make-up should go nicely with the hair and outfit. I haven't yet decided whether or not I'm going to wear false eyelashes. I'm not sure if I value the ability to see over vanity. (can't wear my glasses with false eyelashes and I don't have contact lenses) We'll see... or not.
